Arabic calligraphy is a traditional art that dates back to the seventh century and is tied to the development of the Arabic script. In our digital age, it is used in typography and type design.
In these lessons, you will learn Kufic and Square Kufic calligraphy, which are versatile calligraphic styles that can be used as templates to create new fonts. You will learn to use these styles as templates to design your own typefaces (fonts) and experience the Arabic script as a creative medium.
Prerequisites: Solid grasp of the Arabic script; access to a vector design application, such as Adobe Illustrator, or grid paper. If using a design application, prior knowledge of vector design is recommended, but the basics of design can be covered in the lessons.
These are one-on-one lessons. Each lesson is one hour long and conducted via Skype or Google Hangouts.
